For the 2019 Columnist Project, we were asked to select a columnist with beliefs and opinions differing from our own, and follow them over the course of a few weeks. In following my chosen columnist, I hope to learn how to use various rhetorical strategies in order to create a convincing argument of my own.

After realizing I would never be able to finish any of the far-right columnist's articles, I had to redirect my search to find a more centrist writer. In doing so, after a meticulous search of too many newspapers, I found Kathleen Parker. I decided to follow Parker because not only are her articles tolerable, they are also funny. She strengthens her arguments by employing sarcasm and witty humor, which also makes

them less of a heavy read. As a center-right columnist, Parker addresses topics that interest both political parties and offers reasonable arguments for both sides, although ultimately her articles tend to support the conservative agenda. By choosing to follow Parker, whose political views differ from mine, I hoped that I would be able to more easily recognize rhetorical strategies.
